Beach & Basil

Here are some pics of the beach we go to a few times a week after work.  It is referred to as a "cala" in Catalán, which equates basically to "cove."  Very cool and secluded, less touristy than most spots.

I also got back awhile ago from an organic farm that provides a lot of the produce to the restaurant.  I helped cut basil... and we ended up with a TON of it.  I asked them what we were doing with it tomorrow, and I was simply told, "pesto."  So I will probably be making gallons of pesto tomorrow!

Enjoy the pics.

The path leading to the beach.

Lots of pines and evergreens mixed with palms.

Scenes of the beach!  The dark blob in the water is a mass of dead algae on the seabed you have to either walk or doggie-paddle over the get to the sand beyond.

Hidden away in the rocks here are the remains of a pillbox from the Spanish Civil war in the 1930s.  It is pretty well hidden from the outside, but the entrance is completely open.

...so I went down in it.  Strewn with seventy years' worth of garbage, but very solid and in good shape.

From the machine gun window you get a perfect view of the cove and the sea beyond.

I also got a really good view of an old German guy practicing nude yoga.  Not the exact same thing the Spanish Nationalist forces were looking out for, I suspect.  :)

We did the market this morning.  Here's a stand that specialized in meats and cheeses.

Then this stupid-ass clown showed up and set up shop right next to our booth.  Guess who he dragged out of the crowd to help him get up on that unicycle??? :(  It blew.  Too bad my cam was in my pocket during the whole ordeal.

Here's the farm.  This was a whole row of basil we cut.  We cut half of another one after that and ended up with about three huge crates of basil!

The view from the farm, with the town's castle in the faint distance on the right side of the mountain.

That's all for now.  I meet up with Sean and Liz on Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAY for Sean and Liz :)
LOVE the beach pictures. Do not love the German butt. Cutting basil all day sounds neat.

Hope Sean and Liz arrived safely and you all have a great time exploring Spain. It looks like the camera is working well for you, great pictures so far, but I'm looking forward to another Indiana Jones adventure with three explorers this time. Love, Mom/Carol
